Cas Oorthuys – A house full of people in hiding
Cas and his wife Lydia Oorthuys are members of the resistance.

Lydia: ‘The house on the Amstel almost collapsed sometimes from all the people in hiding there. We never kept check of the numbers. Some stayed for two or three nights; others came for one night, but stayed for the duration of the war. We didn’t know the names of most of them and didn’t want to either, you couldn’t betray them if you were interrogated then. We got food for them from the resistance; we were told where we could collect potatoes or corn, and sometimes a piece of meat or cheese.’
