Joop Zoutberg - When the Germans came in May 1940, they seemed to be proper men
When the Germans came in May 1940, they seemed to be proper men. On the Rembrandtplein, I saw their victory parade and I found it very powerful. Sometimes I saw the soldiers marching from the marine barracks to the pool, and they were all singing songs. They were good singers. They did no harm that first time. From that experience we didn’t expect what would happen afterwards.
