Policeman Maarten Kuiper sentenced to death
Kuiper is active during the so-called Aktion Sibertanne, a series of assassinations carried out between September 1943 and September 1944. More than 50 Dutch people are either murdered or seriously wounded by SS members as retribution for attacks on pro-German Dutch civilians. Maarten Kuiper was certainly involved in the murder of the socialist writer A.M. de Jong on 18 October 1943 in Blaricum.
He also carried out the execution of resistance worker Hannie Schaft. A special court sentences Kuiper to death. He is executed on 30 August 1948.
Retribution
Shortly after the capitulation resistance workers start to arrest collaborators and Germans, if they can find them. Several are put on trial in Amsterdam and some receive the death sentence. Large numbers are imprisoned in Amsterdam or other cities. Children of NSB members are placed in children’s homes.
