Betrayer Ans van Dijk sentenced to death
Ans van Dijk is a Jewish woman who was in hiding in the Marco Polostraat. She also helped two other women go into hiding. In 1943 she is betrayed. Ans is arrested and agrees to help the Sicherheitsdienst.
She pretends to be a member of the resistance and traps many Jews by promising them hiding places. She even betrays her own brother and his family to the Nazis.
After the war Ans is arrested at the house of a friend. In 1947 she appears before a special court. She is sentenced to death for betraying more than 700 people. She is executed in 1948.
Retribution
Shortly after the capitulation resistance workers start to arrest collaborators and Germans, if they can find them. Several are put on trial in Amsterdam and some receive the death sentence. Large numbers are imprisoned in Amsterdam or other cities. Children of NSB members are placed in children’s homes.
